Letter F Worksheet: Trace F and f with Stroke Order (Free PDF)

F is one of the curly caterpillars. A stick with two bars for the capital. The lowercase f is the tallest curly letter: a hook from the top line all the way down, then a bar. Every row on the sheet starts with a solid letter to copy, followed by faint letters to trace.

How to form the letter F

A tall hook and a bar: lowercase f reaches the top line

Capital F (3 strokes)

  1. Start at the top, draw the stick

    Straight down to the base line.

  2. Top bar

    From the top of the stick, across to the right.

  3. Middle bar

    A shorter line across from the middle of the stick.

Lowercase f (2 strokes)

  1. Start near the top, on the right

    Put the pencil on the green dot, just under the top line.

  2. Curve over to the left, then straight down

    Like a walking stick: a small hook, then a long line to the base line.

  3. Cross it on the mid line

    A short bar from left to right.

On the sheet: F is for fish. Say it out loud: "ffff-fish", like a cross cat. Can you think of two more F words?

Common mistakes

What to watch for with F

  • No hook

    A straight line with a bar looks like a t. Start with the small curve over to the left.

  • Bar too high

    The bar sits on the mid line, not up near the hook.

  • Capital F with a bottom bar

    That is an E. F has two bars: top and middle.
