How to form the letter P
Stick down under the line, back up, round
Capital P (2 strokes)

Start at the top, draw the stick
Straight down to the base line.

Back to the top
Curve out to the right and round to the middle of the stick.
Lowercase p (one stroke)

Start at the mid line
Draw a stick straight down, past the base line, into the space underneath.

Go back up the stick
All the way to the mid line.

Round the belly
Curve out to the right and round to the stick. The belly sits on the base line, in front.
On the sheet: P is for pig. Say it out loud: "p-p-pig". Can you think of two more P words?
Common mistakes
What to watch for with P

p written as q
The belly ends up behind the stick. Draw the stick first, then add the belly on the right.

p sits on the line
The stick on p hangs below the base line. The belly sits on it.

Capital P's bump too low
The bump on a capital P ends at the middle of the stick, not the bottom. That would be a D.
