How to form the letter D
Lowercase d starts with c, then goes up tall
Capital D (2 strokes)

Start at the top, draw the stick
Straight down to the base line.

Back to the top
Curve out to the right in one big bump.

Round to the bottom of the stick
Finish where the stick meets the base line.
Lowercase d (one stroke)

Start with a c
Just under the mid line on the right, curve anti-clockwise round.

Go up tall
From the end of the c, draw straight up to the top line.

Come straight back down
Finish on the base line.
On the sheet: D is for dog. Say it out loud: "d-d-dog". Can you think of two more D words?
Common mistakes
What to watch for with D

d written as b
Starting with the stick puts the belly on the wrong side. Start with the c instead.

Short stick
The stick on d goes all the way to the top line, taller than the circle.

Capital D too thin
The bump on a capital D is wide and round. Curve out further than feels natural.
