Letter N Worksheet: Trace N and n with Stroke Order (Free PDF)

N is one of the one-armed robots. Down, then a diagonal and straight up for the capital. The lowercase n is a short stick with one arch. Capital N is often reversed. Every row on the sheet starts with a solid letter to copy, followed by faint letters to trace.

How to form the letter N

Down, back up, then one arch

Capital N (2 strokes)

  1. Start at the top, draw the stick

    Straight down to the base line on the left.

  2. Back to the top

    Slant down to the bottom right corner.

  3. Straight up

    From the bottom right to the top line.

Lowercase n (one stroke)

  1. Start at the mid line

    Draw a short stick down to the base line.

  2. Go back up the stick

    Nearly to the mid line.

  3. Over the arch and down

    Curve over to the right and straight down to the base line.

On the sheet: N is for nest. Say it out loud: "nnnn-nest". Can you think of two more N words?

Common mistakes

What to watch for with N

  • Backwards capital N

    The diagonal goes from top left to bottom right. Downhill, never uphill.

  • n that looks like h

    The stick on n is short, starting at the mid line. Only h has the tall stick.

  • Arch that leans

    The second leg comes straight down. Finish on the base line directly under the top of the arch.
