How to form the letter Y
Capital Y meets in the middle, lowercase y is a u with a tail
Capital Y (2 strokes)

Start at the top line, on the left
Slant down to the middle.

Lift, start at the top right
Slant down to meet the first line in the middle.

Straight down
From the meeting point to the base line.
Lowercase y (one stroke)

Start at the mid line, on the left
Draw a u: down, round the bottom, up to the mid line.

Straight down past the base line
Into the space underneath.

Hook to the left
Curve under and finish pointing left, like g and j.
On the sheet: Y is for yoyo. Say it out loud: "y-y-yoyo". Can you think of two more Y words?
Common mistakes
What to watch for with Y

Tail hooks right
The tail on y curls to the left, the same as g and j.

y sits on the line
The tail hangs below the base line. The u part sits on it.

Capital Y lines that miss
Both slanted lines must meet at the same point before the stick goes down.
